Rum Royale: The Search For DC's Most Creative Bartender

For over twenty years Todd Thrasher has been at the forefront of DC’s cocktail movement from winning many coveted honors in the industry to partnering with celebrated chefs to open numerous acclaimed restaurants and bars as owner and beverage director. Now, Thrasher is building a platform to support other bartenders, who may not be getting the recognition they deserve, and has established a three-month-long cocktail competition, the “Rum Royale.” This will raise the spirits of beverage professionals and industry leaders in DC who will be honored as role models amongst their peers. The first annual city-wide search for the most creative cocktail talent has kicked off. The first 30 participants to complete entry by emailing [email protected] – must confirm employment at a bar/restaurant in the DC area - will qualify to participate. These 30 bartenders are to submit a cocktail recipe by April 24, 2021 to [email protected]. You are encouraged to rum with it, literally. The only rule is that the beverage must include one of the five selections in Thrasher’s Rum award-winning portfolio: White, Gold, Spiced, Coconut, or the flagship Green Spiced Rum, named one of the Top 100 Spirits of 2020 in the Rum Category by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
