Catalan Gastronomic Week brings the Flavors of Catalonia to DC
The Delegation of the Government of Catalunya to the United States has announced the Catalan Gastronomic Week, which will take place from April 17 – 23, 2023. This exciting week-long event will bring the flavors and culture of Catalonia to the USA, in celebration of the annual festival of Sant Jordi. Sant Jordi is a centuries-old beloved festival in Catalonia, celebrated on April 23rd each year. It is a day of love and culture, where people exchange gifts of books and roses. The festival is inspired by the legend of Saint George, a knight who risked his life to save a princess from a dragon.  To honor this tradition, the Catalan Gastronomic Week will showcase the best of Catalan cuisine in twenty participating restaurants across the United States and most importantly, here in DC. Taste traditional Catalan dishes, from pà amb tomàquet, escalivada, rice ‘caldós’ to crema catalana, and learn about the history and culture of the region. In addition to enjoying the food, visitors will also receive an infographic explaining the legend of Saint George and the meaning of the tradition, providing insight into the inspiration behind the festival of Sant Jordi. The event aims to highlight the abundant culinary heritage of Catalonia and emphasize the significance of community and cultural traditions. From the DMV area the following restaurants are participating: Jaleo by Jose Andres, Cranes, Atxondo, El Mercat Bar de Tapas.
