Summer Restaurant Week Returns to DC

Buzz

Summer in the city is heating up, and not just with the weather. The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington’s Summer Restaurant Week is back, offering diners the perfect excuse to explore some of the city’s most exciting dining rooms at a fraction of the price.

This year’s celebration comes at an important moment. With the federal government’s recent crime crackdown rhetoric and heavy-handed tactics grabbing headlines, it’s easy to forget what those of us who actually live and dine here know to be true: D.C. is a beautiful, vibrant city with a rich culture and a thriving restaurant community. As Mayor Bowser has emphasized, violent crime is at a 30-year low.

But! summer is traditionally a slow season for local restaurants, making now more than ever the time to show up and support the city’s independent dining scene.

Before you head out, here are a few Do’s and Don’ts of Restaurant Week Dining:

-DO your homework: check menus and prices online before booking.

-DO leave a generous gratuity, service staff is working as hard as ever.

-DON’T show up without a reservation.

-DON’T be unkind, staffing shortages are still very real, and patience goes a long way.

So grab your friends and make those reservations. Many restaurants are extending their special pricing and menus throughout the rest of the month so stay tuned for an update - and there’s plenty of time to eat your way through the list.
