Super Bowl Sunday 2025: Let the Game Day Festivities Begin
Mark your calendars: February 9, 2025, Super Bowl Sunday at the iconic Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and while we don’t yet know which teams will take the field, we do know where we’ll be watching—and eating! The Super Bowl is more than just a game; it’s a celebration that brings people together, whether you’re rooting for your favorite team or just here for the commercials and halftime show.
Super Bowl parties are their own kind of MVP, from wings and BBQ to loaded nachos and creative game-day spreads, this is your chance to feast on all the delicious food traditions that make Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday for your taste buds. As we get closer to the big day, TheListAreYouOnIt.com is rounding up all the best party spots, catering options, and specials across the DC area to help you plan the ultimate viewing experience. Of course, our own Nycci Nellis puts out a huge spread for Super Bowl every year. She’s included one of her family’s favorite snack before the half-time feast:
From Nycci Nellis: If you know my husband, David (aka The Beast), you know there’s no prying him away from the family room on Super Bowl Sunday. He’s planted firmly on our couch, eyes glued to the TV, ready to cheer and yell. And, of course, he expects a feast worthy of the big game—which I’m more than happy to deliver. Over the years, we’ve celebrated in every way imaginable: hosting a full-on Super Bowl party or keeping it cozy with just the two of us and our Newfies, Zuki and Duncan. No matter the crowd, one thing remains the same: I’m in the kitchen (with a little help from some stellar local spots—check the list below!).
Now, forget the typical pigs in a blanket. My Pull-Apart Pigs are like the MVP of game-day snacks—a savory, cheesy, gorilla bread that disappears faster than a kickoff return for a touchdown. I promise you, they’ll be the first thing to go from your Super Bowl spread.
-Preheat oven to 400 degrees
-Spray an 8 or 9-inch round springform pan
-Melt 1 stick of butter, mix in 2+ teaspoons of preferred seasoning, (I use a mix of oregano, basil, red pepper flakes and garlic powder but you can use za’ataar, Old Bay, etc). Season with salt & pepper
-Flour a board and roll out a prepared fresh pizza dough and cut into small rectangles (I like the one from Vace, but Trader Joes & Whole Foods have ones that work).
-Using two packages of cocktail hot dogs, brush one side of dough with butter mixture and roll in one hot dog - like a pig in a blanket - get it?!
-Place pigs in blanket standing upright in prepared pan. They should be snug. Be careful not to pack them in too much or the dough will not bake.
-Brush top with remaining butter mixture. Place pan on a sheet pan.
-Bake 50-55 minutes
-Cool for 15 minutes, remove from pan
-Serve with warm marinara sauce, and array of spicy mustards or a mix of ketchups.
