My Favorite Year: The Year That Comedy Got Cool
19 Dupont Cir NW
My Favorite Year: The Year That Comedy Got Cool takes the stage at Dupont Underground on Thursday, June 4, 2026, presented by Picnic Theatre Company. The evening begins with cocktails and music at 6:00 PM, followed by a 90-minute parody performance at 7:00 PM.
Set in 1967 New York during the golden age of live television, the show follows an aging film star preparing to appear on a hit late-night sketch comedy program, while a young writer—loosely inspired by Mel Brooks—works to keep the broadcast on track. Against a backdrop of cultural change, including rock and roll, the Vietnam War, and the rise of feminism, the performance blends humor with a sharp take on a transformative moment in American history.
Directed and adapted by Steve Rochlin, the production features an ensemble cast that brings this lively, comedic story to life. All proceeds from ticket sales support the preservation of Dupont Underground, a historic urban arts space.
