Russ & Daughters: 100 Years of Appetizing – With Niki Russ Federman and Josh Russ

When:
December 01,2025 – December 01,2025 all-day
Where:
Sixth & I (In-Person and Virtual)
600 I Street NW

On Monday, December 1st, Sixth & I hosts fourth-generation co-owners of Russ & Daughters, Niki Russ Federman and Josh Russ Tupper, for an evening celebrating their book Russ & Daughters: 100 Years of Appetizing, in conversation with bestselling author Daniel Pink.

The story of Russ & Daughters began in 1907, when Jewish immigrant Joel Russ arrived in New York City with a pushcart of herring. Over the next century, he built a Lower East Side institution dedicated to Jewish appetizing—preserving its traditions while passing it down through four generations. Today, the business continues to thrive with multiple locations across the city.

Russ & Daughters: 100 Years of Appetizing blends history, family stories, and insider anecdotes from behind the counter. The cookbook showcases the shop’s iconic offerings—smoked salmon, sable, sturgeon, herring, and caviar—along with more than 100 recipes for beloved classics like latkes, matzo ball soup, babka, and bagels.

Federman and Tupper, both featured in the award-winning documentary The Sturgeon Queens, will be joined by Daniel Pink, author of seven bestselling books on business, work, and behavior, including The Power of Regret and To Sell is Human.

In-person tickets are $22, with options including a signed book for $45 or a signed book plus a post-event tasting for $80. Virtual tickets are $12, or free with the purchase of a signed book for $48. Limited premium seating is available. Tickets can be purchased online; additional fees apply.

Following the conversation, guests will have the chance to meet the authors and, for those with tasting tickets, enjoy Russ & Daughters specialties brought directly from New York’s Lower East Side.
