GOOD FOOD AWARD OH-MAZING, ONLY DC COMPANY RECOGNIZED BY GOOD FOOD FOUNDATION
Oh-Mazing, a food company specializing in wheat and nut-free organic granolas, received a 2020 Good Food Award for its Caribbean Delight vegan and dairy-free granola, recognizing it as not only an exceptional snack but one that meets the environmental and socially responsible standards of the Good Food Foundation. The award was presented January 17 to founder Stephanie Williams by legendary restaurateur Alice Waters during the Foundation's annual awards weekend in San Francisco, California.
Oh-Mazing was founded in 2015 by Williams, a DC native. It is a small family-operated business, which includes her husband, two children, in-laws, and sister. Williams" entrepreneurial spirit was kindled by her desire to spend more quality time with her two children. She was passionate about healthy eating and entertaining and dibbled and dabbled with different food businesses after resigning from her corporate job in late 2007. Oh-Mazing specializes in making a granola snack that is made without wheat, nuts, soy or preservatives. Williams and her daughter both have food allergies, so the recipes are made so they and others like them can enjoy granola too.
The Caribbean Delight flavor is Oh-Mazing's first vegan flavor and was developed as a tribute to Williams's family roots in Trinidad and Tobago. The recipe of the Caribbean Delight was created from the fond childhood memories that she had of visiting her grandfather over many summers. He would make Sweet Bread, a Trinidadian favorite that is made with coconut and raisins, in preparation for her family's visits. She often enjoyed it with a cup of hot cocoa. Caribbean Delight granola is made with organic ingredients, including coconut oil, coconut, and raisins. Oh-Mazing also makes its vanilla extract in-house using fair-trade and sustainably grown vanilla beans from farmers in Madagascar.
