Creative & Unique Engagements
It's times like these when people put on their creative caps and think of unique ways to engage.
ChefsFeed Virtual Cooking Classes
Virtually connect with chefs and bartenders, learn simple cooking tricks and tips, and most importantly, support the culinary community during this difficult time. For schedule of classes and more information, please click here.
Hirshhorn Museum
The Hirshhorn is introducing #HirshhornInsideOut, a way for you to remain connected through artist- and curator-led conversations and Hirshhorn-inspired hands-on art activities for adults and kids of all ages, all accessed from your device. Join the museum on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter @hirshhorn, where you will be connected to their curators, who will help you tour the collection through keen insights and observations. They also issue creative challenges inviting adults and children to discover their inner artist, and welcome you to send them pictures of your work to be shared along with work from participants around the world.
The Lane Social Club
The Lane, the newly opened family social club in NE DC, is working hard to bring engaging content to your living room until they can welcome you back to their physical space, with sign ups for art, drama, animal classes and more available. Each class is pay-what-you-can, which will help them pay their staff during this temporary closure.
Details and tickets can be found here (page will be updated with each week's programming schedule).
M Institute for the Arts
M4Arts is launching a new online seminar series for those wanting to continue (or begin!) their music instruction through this period of isolation. Classes include Breathing for Singers, Piano Pedaling Techniques, and Audition Skills for Singers, with Zoom Live Music Yoga on Saturdays. Click here for more information. Most importantly, this series aims to be accessible to anyone and everyone, as musicians and artists are facing extreme hardship during this period. There is a suggested donation of $10 - anything you are able to contribute will go towards the M4Arts Faculty in Need Fund. You may also donate to the faculty or a particular faculty member with this fund via cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, or credit card with their online form.
Politics & Prose
While the March schedule of in-store events has been canceled, the bookstore now plans to stream a number of author appearances online using the platform Crowdcast. These virtual events will follow the same format as the in-store ones did - that is, the author will speak first, then take questions from those watching from their homes. Check the Politics & Prose events calendar and weekly newsletter for the webcast calendar. For more information on getting started, click here.
Rossllyn BID
The Rosslyn BID is offering new virtual resources for the community to keep their bodies and minds strong during the COVID-19 crisis. A twice-weekly trivia game with prizes and a variety of fitness and wellness programs are now available on the Rosslyn BID’s website for anyone to enjoy, free of charge. Enjoy a free game of trivia twice a week to close out the workday or kick off virtual happy hour. The 20-question trivia game can be accessed via phone or computer on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The game is an individual player format, and the top three scorers from each match will receive a digital gift card of up to $75 to either Target, Safeway, or CVS. More details and rules can be found here. Partnering with local fitness studios, gyms and Victor, everyone’s favorite Bootcamp coach, the Rosslyn BID has created a new resource to share wellness videos and free content that are accessible from home. Current participants include Gold’s Gym, The Village Mind, One20, Bash Boxing, Rock Recovery and The Optimal Physical Therapy Network.
