Do Unto Others: Feed The Fridge
Feed the Fridge is a nonprofit started in 2020 as a response to the pandemic, working to feed the hungry in the DMV area. They place refrigerators at rec centers, schools, and other locations, which local restaurants fill with fresh meals daily. These refrigerators provide more than 100,000 free meals to anyone who needs them. These meals are funded through donations which pay participating restaurants to provide meals, which in turn helps those restaurants to stay open and pay their employees.
Another important aspect to this nonprofit is delivering holiday meals to those in need. On days known for family and feasting, it can also be an incredibly isolating time for those who are alone and hungry. As they did for Thanksgiving, they will also be hand-delivering meals this year for Christmas to isolated seniors. Feed the Fridge needs donations as well as volunteers to make the holiday season a little bit brighter for those who are spending the time alone. Visit their website to find out more information on how to donate, as well as how to volunteer to either drive/drop off meals or help organize and coordinate meal pickups and drop-offs from Mark Bucher’s restaurants, Medium Rare Bethesda and Medium Rare Arlington. feedthefridge.org
