The DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) and the Nordic Embassies to the United States are excited to announce the initial official lineup for the 16th Annual Nordic Jazz Festival. This year's Festival will feature three concerts at the Mead Center's Arena Stage, and on the premises of the Embassies of Finaland and Norway.
On June 17th, Joonas Haavisto Trio from Finland and Kresten Osgood/Cooper Moore from Denmark/U.S. will perform at the Embassy of Finland. Haavisto is hailed by Der Spiegel as "one of the most talented pianists of his generation," for his combinations of memorable themes with multilayered rhythmic motifs and sophistocated harmonies. On June 21st at Arena Stage at The Mead Center, Grammy-nominated painist-composer-bandleader and DCJF Artist-In-Residence Orrin Evins and his Trio will celebrate the unique crossover music of acclaimed Swedish trio known as E.S.T. Joonas Haavisto Trio from Finland will open the concert. Tickets are available from $39 per person, and the concert will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. More details and tickets for purchase can be found here.
Finally, on June 22nd, Ole Mathisen Renderings Quartet from Norway and Sunna Gunnlaugs Trio from Iceland will perform at the Embassy of Norway. Sunna has been lauded as "elegantly bridging soul-searching passages with uncluttered swing," and Ole is an award-winning saxophonist and composer and the head of the Louis Armstrong Jaxx Performance Program at Columbia University.
