Discovering Wines From Savoie And The French Alps
5207 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, Suite #7, Third Floor
Wines from Savoie and its neighbors in the French Alpine areas are just beginning to break out of the mountains. With the best being worthy of much more than a quick glass on a ski slope, these fresh wines are made from a huge number of local grape varieties, including notably Jacquère, Altesse, Mondeuse, and Persan. Grown often on steep slopes on the foothills of the southern Jura and the Prealps, the wines seem ideal for today’s tastes – with a lightness and freshness, yet surprising ability to age. Wink Lorch will explain the complicated geography and appellations of these diverse vineyards (Savoie has 20 crus, and Bugey has four), along with a focus on each of the different key grape varieties. You will taste 8 wines. Tickets are $55 per person. 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For tickets and more information, please click here.
