Good Things Come In Threes
DC’s cocktail queen, Gina Chersevani, is celebrating Women’s History Month with the launch of a new Cocktail Hour - themed in tribute to the leading ladies of the cocktail world - for the month of March. This marks the reintroduction of an evening drink service at Buffalo & Bergen (Union Market) for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. The debut of Cocktail Hour will welcome a recurring Trilogy Tasting Tray series - featuring three custom cocktails presented on a stylish tray. The inaugural Trilogy Tasting Tray, Toasting Her Flowers ($45,) will celebrate the women pioneers, who paved the way in spirits history, as a special nod to Women’s History Month. In keeping with spring, these cocktails are designed to be a “bouquet,” honoring the women each drink is named for and the women involved in each component of the cocktail’s creation. The standout sips are curated by Buffalo & Bergen bartender, Amy Hosseinnain, and include the Pansies for Mary - named for the mother of distillation Mary the Jewess - a marvelous mix of La Diablada Pisco, Kleos Mastiha Spirit, Peony, Concord Grape, Lemon, and Egg Whites. It is joined by Roses for Ada - named for the first woman head bartender of The Savoy, Ada Coleman - a compelling combination of Hendrick's Gin, Square One Bergamot Liqueur, Minted Rosewater, and Orange. Both are featured alongside Blossoms for Valentine - named for Valentine Goesaert, the first woman to challenge Bar Maid Laws in the Supreme Court - sharing Appleton Rum, Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye, Pink Peppercorn, Marigold, and Apple Blossom. Accompanying the tasting trio are two small bites, including Gnome's water cucumber palate cleanser and an orange blossom macaron by Tiffany MacIsaac of Buttercream Bakery as part of the 14 Days RE:Her DC Festival. The inaugural tasting trio is the result of talents and ingredients provided by: Melanie & Lizzie Asher - Founders of Macchu Pisco; Effie Panagopoulos - Founder of KLEOS Mastiha Spirit; Lesley Gracie - Master Distiller for Hendrick’s; Allison Evanow - Founder of Square One Organic Spirits; Joy Spence - Master Blender of Appleton Estates; Becky Harris - Chief Distiller of Catoctin Creek, and Mary Ackley of Little Wild Things Farm. Imbibers at the Buffalo & Bergen Cocktail Hour may also clink glasses with a Punch of the Day ($8), wine & beer specials, and classic cocktails ($10-$15). Pair alongside the savory bites and artisan bagel sandwiches. Rotating monthly, each cocktail is distinct in flavor, but unified by the highly creative theme introduced at the start of each month. The Trilogy Tasting Trays ($33-$75) will launch from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3rd and remain available through Sunday, March 6th (returning every Thursday through Sunday each week).
