Hirshhorn ARTIST TALK: RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA
Independence Ave SW & 7th St SW
Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija will have a discussion with curator Mark Beasley the day before the Hirshhorn's new exhibition of his works opens to the public. Tiravanija will address themes around memory, culture, and community. The culinary component of the installation will transform the Museum's gallery into a communal dining space in which you will be invited to share a meal of Thai curry together. By framing this everyday activity as art, Tiravanija calls attention to the beauty in a shared meal, tapping into the potential food has to unite people. The exhibition will also include a large scale mural of historic Thai protest imagery, drawn live by local artists, as well as a series of documentary shorts, providing a powerfully immersive environment for the artist's signature culinary work. The event is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information, click here.
