June First Friday: LGBTQ+ History Of Dupont Circle

When:
June 07,2019 – June 07,2019 all-day
Where:
Heurich House Museum
1307 New Hampshire Avenue NW

Although the Dupont Circle neighborhood was residential when Christian Heurich lived here from 1894 to 1945, it evolved into an epicenter for the gay community in DC during the 1960s and 70s. One of the first spots was Lambda Rising, one of the world’s largest gay bookstores, which opened just north of the circle in 1974, becoming a place for the community to gather. In celebration of the neighborhood’s history during Pride Month, the Rainbow History Project is coming to the Heurich House during First Friday to chat with you about the gay history of Dupont Circle. They’ll have coloring sheets, beverages and snacks for sale, and a Castle Garden (weather permitting) for you to chill in. This is event is free and open to the public. 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. For more information, please click here.
