Northeast Feast With Michael Franz: Italian Treasures from Veneto, Friuli, Alto Adige & Marche Online
Online
Savvy wine lovers are always on the lookout for regions where the quality of the wines exceeds their fame, and Italy’s northeast fits that description perfectly. Unlike Tuscany and Piedmont, the northeast is too fragmented to present a unified identity to the world, and indeed important portions of the area were formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, with residents who still predominantly speak either German or Slovenian. Nevertheless, excellence is undeniable when offered in a glass…or twelve, to be more precise. The whites offer the widest variety and highest quality of any part of Italy, as you'll see when encountering classics like Pinot Bianco, Friulano, Verdicchio, and Soave Classico along with a rising star from the Marche, Pecorino. On the red side, you’ll sample a fabulously complex Amarone as well as its increasingly successful sibling, Valpolicella Ripasso, along with striking examples of Pinot Nero and Cabernet Franc and excellent regional specialties such as an obscure but undeniably great Marche Rosso or Conero Riserva. The event is $85 per person and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wine samples available for pickup by appointment on Friday, September 11 between 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. To register and for more information please click here.
