Red Beans Roadshow
1819 Columbia Road NW
Veteran food writer and natural-born cook Pableaux Johnson will be bringing the time-honored tradition of Red Beans and Rice tour to the nation’s capital with a hearty supply of New Orleans’ legendary Camellia Brand Red Beans in hand. The 96-year-old New Orleans dried bean brand, Camellia, exhibited at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, is the fabled fuel behind the famous Red Beans Roadshow. Co-host chef Ann Cashion at her James Beard Award-winning restaurant, Johnny’s Half Shell, and New Orleans native, TV personality-chef David Guas of Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery, will be collaborating with Johnson to create a family-style feast with a sit-down, three-course supper. With a hearty supply of Camellia Brand Red Beans in hand, Johnson, Cashion, and Guas will prepare the traditional Louisiana-Monday night meal of red beans and rice…but on a Tuesday this time! The intention is to have diners break cornbread and make memories with friends and strangers, alike. With every bowl they ladle up, and with each new bond they forge over Red Beans and Rice, they exemplify Camellia’s heartfelt motto: Gather ‘Round! Just as New Orleans communities have long gathered on Mondays to enjoy this meal with others, the roadshow shares the full embrace of the Red Beans and Rice Ritual. 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the Red Beans Roadshow at Johnny’s Half Shell are available for $60 per person, and include a home-style, three-course meal, featuring starters of deviled eggs, followed by red beans and rice, cornbread, and doberge cake from David Guas.
