Giving DC Jail Food a Fresh Start: A Community Conversation at Impact Justice
1101 Connecticut Avenue NW
Join Impact Justice for a thought-provoking conversation on the transformation of food service within the D.C. jails. Coordinated by DC jail food reform coalition partners and hosted by partners Impact Justice and DC Greens, this community event will center on the disturbing results from a recent survey of roughly 300 DC jail residents about food access and quality in the jail. The survey and related report reveal shockingly unsafe and inhumane conditions at the DC jail and the urgent need for change. Coalition partners will be joined by returned citizens with lived experience and the office of Councilmember Brooke Pinto. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from leaders who support Councilmember Pinto’s FRESH STARTS Act to reform and transform jail food, talk through the survey results and discuss our ongoing advocacy plans as a group, and enjoy a communal meal together.
