MARK YOUR CALENDARS: African Food And Music Fest
2221 Adams Place NE
Which African country has the best cuisine? You be the judge, at the 2021 Jollof Cook-off and Afrobeats Block Party. Afropolitan Cities, a diaspora networking and entertainment group across eight metropolitan areas, is proud to announce the return of the highly anticipated Jollof Cook-off. One of DC’s largest sold-out events and the most popular African Diaspora event of 2019, this year’s cook-off will confirm which country indeed prepares the beloved Jollof Rice dish to perfection. Sierra Leone’s 2019 crown will be challenged by Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Liberia. Afropolitan Cities Founder, Kweku Amoako, stated “The jollof rivalry between countries is no secret. If you have a West African friend, chances are you have had a jollof dish presented with a hefty serving of trash talk.” He continued, This year we will determine which country actually does it the best at the Jollof cook-off and Afrobeats Block Party. To ensure fairness, our patrons will be the judge.” Taking place on Saturday, September 25th at Karma DC, the event is a festive atmosphere and culturally rich experience that combines the cook-off with live block party, musical performers, fashion popup shop, food vendors, and visual art from various African cultures. This immersive fun-filled cultural event puts the vibrancy and diversity of Afro-Caribbean cultures on full display for all to enjoy. Saturday, September 25th, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, please click here.
