
Online Class: Art of the Personal Essay
Do you have a story you want to turn into a personal essay for publication or posterity? Amplify your writing skills by learning how to craft a complex and compelling personal essay with guidance from veteran freelance writer Nevin Martell, a D.C.-area based food and travel writer, parenting essayist, and photographer, on topics like creating structure and constructing narrative arc to honing your voice and developing a satisfying emotional payoff. Class space is limited. Before the first class, you will have to submit a synopsis of the personal essay you intend to workshop, as well as read Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott On Writing by Stephen King. Included with the price of the class are two rounds of feedback on a single personal essay, and the opportunity to workshop your essay with classmates. Class registration is $185 per person, with a 10% discount for Politics and Prose Bookstore membership. Classes will take place virtually from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. each week.
