Chef Andrew Markert has opened a new Capitol Hill restaurant, Newland, in the space formerly home to Montmarte. Newland, named after the street Markert grew up on in Baltimore, allows guests to taste the first flavors he tasted in his mother and father's kitchen; with menu items such as crab, char-grilled steak, over open coals, Mid-Atlantic ingredients, and more. Joining Markert at this new concept is Mackenzie Conway, who orchestrated a wine-focused program that highlights underrepresented wines. Conway also provides a variety of cocktails, featuring his takes on classic, seasonal, and modern creations. Newland is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.; 202.525.1395; For more information, visit their Instagram here.
