Opera Lafayette Presents: The Era of Marie Antoinette in June

Opera Lafayette will perform their 2022 season, presenting three programs exploring one theme - The Era of Marie Antoinette, Rediscovered. As always, the season will be presented in two cities: Washington DC, and New York City. 

The centerpiece program is a modern premiere of Grétry's 1770 opera Silvain. Also being presented are a chamber concert (in New York only), The Musical Salon of Marie Antoinette, as well as a dramatically conceived concert with orchestra and six vocalists entitled Concert Spirituel aux Caraïbes. Performances at the Kennedy Center are outlined below 

Sylvain, a fully staged modern premiere of Grétry’s 1770 opera, much admired by Marie Antoinette, and the first opera performed in New Orleans (1796) - Thursday, June 2nd and Friday, June 3rd, 7:30 p.m.

Concert Spiritual aux Caraïbes (Spiritual Concert of the Caribbean) with music by Gossec, Dalayrac, Pergoesi, and others, with critical eye on the meaning of French music in Caribbean colonies - Thursday June 12th 7:30 p.m.
