Smithsonian Food History Gala at the National Museum of American History
Constitution Avenue, NW Between 12th and 14th Streets Washington, D.C.
Join The Smithsonian National Museum for American History for the eighth annual presentation of the Julia Child Award and help support the Smithsonian Food History Project. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Julia Child Award by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts to the recipient, Grace Young. Recently, Grace was awarded the James Beard Foundation Humanitarian Award for her work to Save Chinatown and documenting the toll of Anti-Asian hate.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and passed hors d’oeuvres prepared by noted chefs Henji Cheung/Queen’s English, Scott Drewno and Danny Lee/Anju, ChiKo and Mandu as well as Pichet Ong with dinner prepared by Peter Chang. The cocktail reception lasts about an hour and segues into the primary event honoring Grace Young with Frances Lam, host of the Splendid Table on American Public Media, who will MC the evening.
The gala is also the primary fundraising event to support the staff and programs of the museum’s signature American Food History Project. As with so many organizations, the pandemic wiped out all funding reserves, and this event is critical for rebuilding the program. You will be supporting the important initiatives of the Smithsonian Food History Project, which will help them to continue their internship program which provides mentoring and professional learning experiences to candidates from communities that are underrepresented in the museum and food history fields. In addition, your support will help them create and sustain a more robust presence with the food history collections, research, and programs, including the popular Cooking Up History conversations and demonstrations that feature guest chefs and cooks from around the country.
Tickets are $500 per person, and different sponsorship levels are available. Thursday, October 13. For tickets and more information, please click here.
