Breaking the Fast
The High Holidays: They’re either early or late, and this year Rosh Hashanah seems early and Yom Kippur seems right on time. Go figure? Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on the evening of September 15th. Time to ring in the Jewish New Year with the blowing of the shofar, swirling slices of apples into honey, and then throwing our sins (via pieces of bread) into a body of water. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, celebrate, and eat (obviously). And THEN! It’s time to set the table for Yom Kippur. This year the fast that starts the evening of September 24th. For the uninitiated: A big meal on that Sunday night, followed by a full day of fasting on Monday (no food or water) and then followed by another huge meal to "break" the fast. For those who celebrate, the last thing you need to worry about is what you and the fam are eating! Fortunately, if you are looking for help, we have suggestions for all the soup, brisket, challahs, fish, bagels, and schmears. L’Shonah Tova to those of you who celebrate ~
