Yes, You Can Still Have A Wedding, Just A Petite One
The wedding industry is experiencing a near-total collapse as a result of the current pandemic and peak season for nuptials is coming up. Many couples want to get married in May and June. With the expected Phase II of public mandates on the horizon, no more than 30 people will be permitted to gather. But, a group of women wedding professionals in the DC Area has decided to come together to form a startup, Petit Soirée. Taking matters into their own hands - Buttercream Bakeshop (Wedding Cake Confectionery), Abby Jiu (Wedding Photographer), Sweet Root Village (Florist), and Lauryn Prattes (Styling and Design) - they are pulling their small business resources to offer mini and micro-wedding ceremonies. Petit Soirée will work with couples to design a 15-minute ceremony followed by 45-minute Champagne toast - with no more than 30 guests in attendance. To reduce costs by arranging three of these mini-weddings to take place in one day, almost back to back, at the same venue. The couples can share the expenses of items like decorative flowers and other services. The abbreviated ceremonies are not intended to replace any grand celebrations planned for the following year but allow for the wedding to stay on course. Circumstances may make the date important to the couple for a variety of reasons. (Petit Soirée will be donating a mini-wedding to a couple in which one or both of the partners are on the frontlines and have had to postpone the original wedding as a result.)
