SMOKEBEER PRESERVATION DAY 2025!

Shelter invites guests to raise a glass on Wednesday, July 23rd, in honor of Smokebeer Preservation Day 2025—a celebration of Bamberg’s legendary rauchbier tradition. Observed annually on the anniversary of the 1635 patent for the first smoke-free malt-drying machine, this day commemorates the moment that reshaped beer history. While smoke-free brews gained popularity in the centuries that followed, breweries like Schlenkerla have kept the rauchbier flame alive. Shelter pays tribute to these smoky, storied lagers with a curated lineup of six draft selections, including German classics and modern global interpretations. Admission is free and all beers will be available a la carte—join the celebration and help preserve this unique style for generations to come.
